INTERNATIONAL COFFEE DAY

Cappuccino, Latte, Mocha, or the South Indian traditional filter coffee? How do you prefer your coffee? 

Many countries around the world celebrate their national coffee day on various dates throughout the year. In March 2014, the Member States of the International Coffee Organization agreed to organize International Coffee Day on the 1st of October to create a single day of celebration for coffee lovers around the world.

Whatever your coffee preference may be, they are essentially derived from four main types of coffee beans – Arabica, Robusta, Excelsa, and Liberica.  

Here are some interesting facts about coffee:

  • Coffee beans are nothing but seeds!
  • The country that grows more coffee is Brazil.
  • The World’s most expensive coffee is the Kopi Luwak, which is nothing but the excreta of the Asian palm civet! It costs about 44,000($600) a pound.
  • The word ‘coffee’ is derived from the arabic word for ‘wine’.
  • Many people tried to ban coffee. 
  • The biggest coffee lovers are in Finland. 

Interesting fact
Coffee was introduced to Indian hillsides from Yemen around the mid to late 1600s.
