INTERNATIONAL INDIGENOUS PEOPLE’S DAY

Indigenous people are the original people who inherit the land of their ancestors who lived in that place for ages. They live in many regions around the world owning, using, or occupying approximately 22% of the land globally. Indigenous people represent a greater cultural diversity numbering at least 370-500 million people from various communities. Indigenous people alone speak almost 7000 languages of the world!

While most individuals have been slaves of digitalization, there are a few tribes who have kept to themselves and secluded from a fast-paced world.

Did you know?
There are over 100 uncontacted tribes worldwide. The Sentinelese tribes are the most secluded among them and are hostile towards building a connection with the outside world!

In India, we refer to tribes as the ‘Adivasi’. They are spread across various regions and have their own festival, culture, food, language, and religion. These tribes have an interesting lifestyle, and you are most likely to spot a majority of them in the central, southern, and eastern regions of the country.

Most of us relate to the interesting attire and culture of these people. You can check out this map that clubs all the indigenous people from across the world.

Interesting fact
You might have witnessed a traditional dance or challenge during various sporting events (especially rugby) performed by the New Zealand team! The fact is that this challenge is a part of the Māori culture, an indigenous tribe from the mainland of New Zealand. The performance is known as Haka and why not check it out?
